The Gallery of Orthodox Traditions
(Opened in 2002)

This exhibit explore the continuity of Orthodox Christian communities from the Old World to the New. A map traces the arrival of Orthodox immigrants in the American heartland. Photographs and artifacts bring to life the celebrations and rites of passage handed down from generation to generation.

An epitaphion (shroud) is always carried in procession during Orthodox services on Great and Holy Friday. This epitaphion was embroidered in Greece c. 1925. Used by St. Dionysios Greek Orthodox Church in Kansas City, KS, and later by St. Theodore Orthodox Church, Kansas City, MO.
